Winter Season - Cross Country and Road Walks

Athletes who registered for the Summer Season are also automatically eligible to participate in the following Winter Program at not extra cost.  New Winter-only registrations are offered at a reduced cost (2019: $100 total, $75 of which is LAWA fee component for insurance etc). 

The Winter Season runs from April to August.  Training is held weekly at Yokine Reserve 4:45 - 5:30pm Mon and Tue. Competition is, in general, alternated between Cross Country Runs & Road Walks each Saturday afternoon at various locations and run in conjunction with a Host Centre and Little Athletics WA.  The Program for each meeting will commence at approx 1.00pm. Cross Country Runs

Competition is held every second Saturday afternoon.  The season is a mixture of scratch (all start together) and handicap (staggered start based on PB) races open to athletes U7-17. Cross Country courses are located at venues spread around the metropolitan area and are organised by the hosting Little Athletic Centre in conjunction with Little Athletics WA.

Distances (with a variance of 100 metres either way);

  • U7, U8 - 1000m Pink Flags
  • U9, U10 - 1500m White Flags
  • U11, U12 - 2000m Green Flags
  • U13 - U17 - 3000m, Orange Flags  

** Competitors must compete in 'more than half' of the season's Cross Country runs to be eligible for State Championships at the end of the season.

Winter Road Walks
Competition is held on alternate Saturday afternoons to Cross County runs and are open to athletes U9-17.  Races are held in car parks of schools, universities, shopping centres etc around the metropolitan area as determined by the host Centre.

Distances;

  • U9 - 1000 metres
  • U10, U11 - 1500 metres
  • U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 - 2000 metres

** Competitors must compete in 'more than half' of the season's Road Walks times to be eligible for State Championships at the end of the season.
